Certificate maker: celebrate the wins at home

Type your child’s name and what they’ve done, pick a design, and print an A4 certificate. A small certificate on the fridge says “I noticed”, and that matters as much in a home classroom as in any school hall.

When to give a certificate at home

Certificates mean most when they are a little bit rare and very specific. “Knowing my 8 times table” lands better than “Being good at maths”. Some times that work well:

  • A goal reachedA whole times table, a reading target or a tricky spelling list finally secure.
  • The end of a topicFinishing a project, a lapbook or a topic like the octopus or Marrakech.
  • Effort, not only resultsSticking with something hard, even if it isn’t perfect yet.
  • A firstFirst book read alone, first story written, first time riding a bike without stabilisers.
  • End of a termA look back at everything learned. Many families follow the school terms, even at home.
  • Being kindHelping a younger brother or sister, or someone in the group or club.

Make it an occasion. Hand it over at dinner, read it out, and let your child choose where it goes. Keep a folder of them: by the end of the year it’s a lovely record of their learning.
